About Us

Upper Wharfedale CIC (UWCIC)

The Upper Wharfedale Community Interest Company (UWCIC) was established by Dave Eggleton and Jonathan Shepherd in 2015 and followed by Gerard Simpson as a director in 2016, as part of a desire to put something back into the community and help to make Wharfedale and Littondale even better places to live, work and visit.

Our primary goal is to raise money for non-profit organisations and needy causes throughout the Upper Wharfedale area

We aim to do this through various social enterprises activities including our main event; the Wharfedale Beer Festival.

The three key areas we look to support are:

  • Community Transport Links
  • Junior Sports Development
  • Tourism Safety Organisations

Wharfedale Packhorse

Your Commmunity Leisure Minibus

The Wharfedale Packhorse provides low cost Saturday night bus services, connecting villages throughout Upper Wharfedale and Littondale, as well as ad hoc trips to various destinations.

The 17 seater Ford Transit Trend minibus is available to hire for local people to have a trip out and for visiting groups to enjoy the Yorkshire Dales with one of our drivers, subject to availability.

How We Fund Our Services

The Wharfedale Packhorse is operated and administered by Upper Wharfedale CIC with support from DalesBus, Dales & Bowland CIC and funded with the help of the Yorkshire Dales National Park's Sustainable Development Fund, Dark Horse and Wharfedale Breweries, pubs throughout Wharfedale and Littondale and the Wharfedale Beer Festival.

We Receive No Public Sector Funding

Unlike most community minibuses, we receive no funding from Central Government nor North Yorkshire County Council.  We are entirely dependent on private finance and the goodwill of individuals.  Collection tins are available on the bus or you can donate online here. Thank you.
